Utility & RV Winch Lines

Cortland manufactures a wide range of high performance synthetic fiber Winch Lines, including vehicle recovery winch lines, ATV winch lines and tow ropes. We also manufacture utility winch lines for pulling overhead power lines and setting poles and transformers.  Lighter than steel and easier on the hands, Cortland's synthetic fiber lines spool up flat and pull off the drum easier than steel.  Safer, lighter, and easier than steel, trust synthetic fiber winch lines from Cortland.

Below is a comprehensive list of all our strength members suitable for winch lines. These detail the construction types we use and their relative strengths and applications. A Product Data Sheet for each product listed below is available here or in our resources and downloads section. To read more about recreational winch lines, reference our Off-road Case Study.

Plasma® 12 Strand

Plasma® 12 Strand is the highest strength synthetic rope available. Plasma® 12 Strand is manufactured from high performance Honeywell Spectra 900® Fiber that has been enhanced by Cortland's patented recrystallization process. Plasma® 12 strand is supplied with our standard polyurethane finish, although other coatings can be applied to suit specific applications, and is easily spliced.

Benefits / Features
  • Lowest stretch
  • Low creep
  • Soft hand
  • Torque free
  • Easy splicing
  • Neutrally buoyant in water
  • Select sizes are ABS & DNV type approved
Plasma® 12x12

The 12x12 Construction is designed specifically for high modulus, high strength fibers such as Spectra®, Plasma® enhanced Spectra®, BOB® , and Vectran® . This patented construction addresses the most critical properties of the fibers to provide a very high strength translation efficiency for larger ropes.  This design allows for long lay lengths, making the rope more flexible for bending applications and rope that is easy to inspect and can be quickly spliced using standard 12 strand splicing techniques. Plasma® 12x12 is a 12-strand single braided rope in which each of the 12 strands is, in turn, a 12-strand rope, or braided primary strand.  Plasma® 12x12 is supplied with our standard polyurethane finish, although other coatings can be applied to suit specific applications.

Benefits / Features
  • World's strongest rope for its weight
  • Long lengths available
  • High flex fatigue and abrasion resistance
  • Easy to splice, inspect, and repair
  • Neutrally buoyant in water
  • Select sizes are ABS & DNV type approved
Spectra® 12 Strand

Spectra® 12 Strand provides very high strength, low stretch and excellent abrasion resistance in a single braid construction. Pound for pound, it is over 3 times as strong as polyester and has less than one half the elongation. Spectra® 12 Strand is easily spliced using a simple lockstitch type splice or 5-4-3 Tuck splice, and its soft, torque free braided construction provides easy handling. Spectra® 12 Strand is supplied with our standard polyurethane finish, although other coatings can be applied to suit specific applications.

Benefits / Features
  • Very low stretch
  • Very high strength
  • Soft hand
  • Torque free
  • Easy splicing
  • Neutrally buoyant in water
  • Select sizes are ABS & DNV type approved
