Actuation and Safety Cables

Actuation and Safety CablesEnabling Solutions with Textile Components
New technologies are being used to enhance capabilities and performance in the repair of damaged or diseased tissues.  An increasingly active and aging population combined with surgeons embracing arthroscopic/endoscopic procedures, has resulted in an increased demand for minimally invasive surgical procedures to evaluate or treat various clinical indications. The current wave of device innovation has gone well beyond traditional materials and structures used in established medical devices. New fibers and geometries with greater variability of properties and performance characteristics have enabled design developments previously unimagined.

Medical Braids
Lightweight, high performance medical braids from Cortland offer the strength of steel, with more flexibility and zero corrosion. Braids can be metallic, synthetic monofilament or synthetic multifilament, and applications include:

  • Catheter components and sub assemblies
  • Robotic assemblies
  • Robotic and mechanical actuators
  • Actuator cables

Types of Cables
Choose from cables with controlled stretch, or high fatigue / life cycle. Cables can be custom designed for flexibility or to accept various coatings and/or be designed for compatibility for the attachment of swaged components. Cables can be manufactured into fixed lengths produced using various methods that include, but is not limited to, shearing, electro-cut, or fused cut lengths.

Assemblies
Typical assemblies include:

  • Custom mechanical assemblies
  • Baskets
  • Electro-cut lengths
  • Shear-cut lengths
  • Cut and stripped coated lengths
  • Miniature assemblies
  • Looped wire
  • Snares
