Our Sales Engineer delivers the credibility of the Cortland brand through a high level of customer intimacy and technical acumen. Furthermore, they will build rapport with customers by probing for needs and recommending solution-based, value-add applications. A successful candidate will tackle this region with enthusiasm and motivation to meet with existing and potential customers.


  • Appropriate territory management with daily customer contact in a fast pace environment.
  • Establish Cortland in new, adjacent markets and new applications.
  • Use personal authority and expertise to grow Cortland presence within the region.

Day in the Life:

  • The primary focus of this position will be technical sale of our products.
  • You will arrange your travel schedule to visit customers and work with our technical and manufacturing teams.
  • You will be responsible for the complete quotation process which includes getting input from team members in engineering, manufacturing, finance and supply chain and meeting margin targets.

Qualifications and Education Requirements

Education, Skills & Experience

Required - Must Haves:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering or Engineering Technology.
  • 3-5 years of experience selling technical products/systems. Demonstrated success in applying the fundamentals and application of "Time and Territory Management" techniques. Demonstrated knowledge and application of "Key Account" management.
  • Demonstrated experience of driving full cycle client management including engagement with customers, cold calling, prospect management, bid management and closing a sale.
  • Relentless drive for results. Curious and self-motivated.
  • Creative ability and good business and decision making skills. Develop and deliver customer-centered solutions, providing exceptional service to meet and exceed customer requirements.
  • Effective at influencing and negotiating both internally and with customers at all levels. Needs to work well in a team environment, willing to step up in difficult situations and take leadership role to solve problems.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills (including inquiry management, quoting, reporting and forecasting to required levels).

Preferred - Nice to Have:

  • Synthetic or Wire Rope and Assembly sales experience.
